WS19 Mk.III - A classic boat anchor
This set is in excellent condition, particularly the internals. They have been previously restored, but as with any old set, I'm assuming nothing!
This model would have been used by the Canadian forces, and it was manufactured in 1943. They were fitted to tanks, Bren gun carriers, and Willys Jeeps.
The Mk.III 19 Set has two wireless sets, 'A' Set and 'B' Set, and an intercom amplifier for use in the tanks; things were a bit noisy in there!
The 'A' set covers 2-8 Mhz, and the 'B' set covers 235 Mhz, and was used for short range communications only.
With the original whip aerials, coverage was not that good, up to around 15 miles. With a skywave aerial, there are reports of this model establishing a transatlantic QSO, with another boat anchor!
Hopefully, with a well designed mobile whip and an ATU, I can get reasonable coverage from somewhere high up on Dartmoor, but that's to be seen..
A Control Box was used with this set, to provide control over both 'A' and 'B' sets, and the I/C (intercom). This box was used in multiple configurations, and it is needed to connect the headphones and mic to the 19 set.
(The pinouts on the 19 set connectors allow direct connection, but this is a bit too far from the original!)
I have wanted a 19 Set since I was a kid, and I've only had to wait about 30 years.. This one is an excellent restoration candidate, though I still haven't found a Mk.II/III power supply.
The Mk.I PSU has both negative HT rails tied, and the Mk.III 19 Set requires separate rails. I am building a 12v power supply that will provide the 550v and 275v required from my Jeep battery, and
I will construct a replica case for it. Anyone got an original set of headphones and mic No.7 set?
